Backpacking in Olympic National Park

  • Climbed Mount Olympus (the highest point of the Olympic Mountains) - 7,969’ by ascending the standard route up the Blue Glacier
  • Total trip backpacking distance - 65 miles

Day 1 - July 30th

Started at Hoh Trailhead and hiked through Hoh River Rainforest camping near Ranger Station.

Day 2 - July 31st

Packed up camp and backpacked in past Lewis Meadow to Glacier Meadows.

Day 3 - August 1st

Alpine start from Glacier Meadows, roped up to cross the Blue Glacier and summited the West Peak of Mt Olympus. We had to turn around about 30 ft shy of the true summit due to fast weather moving in.

Day 4 - August 2nd

Broke camp at Glacier Meadows and hiked back to Lewis Meadow with a stop to fish and swim at Elk Lake.

Day 5 - August 3rd

Packed up camp at Lewis Meadow and hiked over to Hoh Lake.

Day 6 - August 4th

Hoh Lake to Sol Duc Park with a side hike to Cat Peak.

Day 7 - August 5th

Packed up and hiked out to Sol Duc Trailhead where we had a rental car parked.

Day 8 - August 6th

Toured around Seattle, before catching our flights home.
